Interstate 40 runs east and west straight through Amarillo. Here is how to describe your location and get help moving.
I-40 crosses the whole city, with frontage roads and ramps at most major cross streets. From the west side toward the east, the cross streets you will see on signs include Soncy Road, Coulter Street, Western Street, Georgia Street, Washington Street, Grand Street and Eastern Street, then Whitaker Road and Lakeside Drive on the east side. Exit numbers and ramp layouts change with construction, so read the signs you actually pass instead of relying on a list.
Truck stops are listed on and near I-40 in Amarillo, most of them on the east side of town around Whitaker Road, Lakeside Drive and Airport Boulevard. Pilot, Petro, TA, Flying J and Love's all appear in public listings. Hours, services and addresses vary, so confirm by phone before you plan around one.

Highway speeds on I-40 are high, and crosswinds are common in the Panhandle. Get as far from the travel lanes as you safely can, turn on your hazard lights and keep your seat belt on if you stay in the vehicle. If you must get out, use the side away from traffic and stand well clear of the road. Do not try to change a tire with traffic passing close by.

If you or anyone is in danger or the vehicle is blocking a lane, call 911 first. For a routine flat, use the request form or the phone number on this page and give the location details above. If you drive for a carrier, tell your dispatcher too.
Only if you can get well away from traffic and have what you need. On a busy interstate shoulder it is often safer to wait for a pro. Flat Tire Change covers what the service involves.
No. Requests are most likely to be covered in and around Amarillo. If you are farther east or west on I-40, submit your request anyway and the pro will tell you whether they can reach you.
When you call or fill out the form, the exit number you last passed or the nearest cross street is the fastest way to tell a tire pro where you are. These are the I-40 exits through Amarillo, west to east.
